From a small, travelling one-man band to a global leader in over 50 countries, this is the story of HL Display.
Our story begins in Borlänge in 1954. The travelling salesman Harry Lundvall saw a problem. Products were badly displayed and there were no prices in stores. This was during the time when groceries were evolving into self-service. So, Harry took matters into his own hands. Armed with an iron and sheer enthusiasm, he started manufacturing label holders and merchandising stands by hand in his basement in Borlänge, Sweden. His products soon created exposure and order in stores. The success was a fact.
The international breakthrough came in the 90’s when his granddaughter Lis and her husband Anders took over. Together with their team, they made the company grow with new customers in new countries. In the process, Anders and Lis happily turned their home into an office and a stock room. It is safe to say, that their entrepreneurial heart is what made HL Display the leading company that it is.
Today we bring our pioneering spirit into the next era by celebrating decades of innovations. Our passion for retail makes us focused on people’s changing needs. Having been established over 40 years, PPE joined the HL Display AB group in 2009 to become a fully integrated business known as HL Display (UK) Ltd.
PPE, where it all began
In 1971, Ted and Gwen Parker (soon to be joined by their sons, Neil and Nigel Parker) established PP Enterprise, undertaking plastics fabrication for local industries. In the 1980s, the business diversified into promotional items and rapidly established itself as a major supplier of a wide range of leaflets dispensers and cardholders.
Due to significant growth, the business moved to larger premises in Harlow, Essex in 1984 and finally settled down in an impressive 5.5 acre site with a 130,000 sq ft facility.
Achieving the Queen's Award
In 1988, PPE began to export, increasing the company's turnover to £6m over the following four years. This became so successful that the company was awarded the Queen's Award for export achievement. The business continued to grow and PPE acquired companies including: POSC (2000), Interbin Storage & Display (2005) and Dauman Displays (2006). They also extended their facility in Harlow, increasing the premises to 190,000 sq ft by adding warehouses and investing in new machinery.
A solid partnership
PPE, now HL Display (UK) Ltd, joined HL Display AB, a leading international supplier of products and solutions for in-store communication and merchandising to retailers and brands. HL Display Group operates in 45 markets throughout Western and Eastern Europe, the Middle East and Asia.
